Owl Pellet Fun

Inquiry yesterday morning was a LOT of fun! The class was able to take further steps into exploring ecosystems and the roles different organisms play in their ecosystem.

Yesterday we explored the role an owl has in its ecosystem by dissecting owl pellets. The class worked in pairs to investigate what an owl pellet was and what mysteries it held inside!

The kids found bones of all shapes and sizes from rodents, shrews, moles and even birds! They hypothesized, observed, analyzed and discussed all morning!

We came to the following conclusions: “The owl is probably at the top of its food chain.”  “Clearly this owl was a consumer!” “The owl is a nocturnal organism and the animals it eats are also nocturnal…..and probably slow!”

Check out the bones some of us found!
