Geometry, VA Government and Mile Run

Wow, it has been a long time since I’ve posted about the fantastic things we have been doing in ARFFlantis!

We finished up our study in Geometry by creating “art to wear” shirts!

Each student had to create a rough draft of their shirt design. Their design had to include a number of items we discussed in class. They came out super creative and we had a lot of fun on this final geometry assessment!

The final piece of VA Studies we explored included how the Commonwealth of Virginia grew during the 20th and 21st centuries! We were excited to find out that technology was one of the fields that helped our state grow. We talked about the great humanitarians that Virginia can call their own, from Oliver Hill, Linwood Holton to Woodrow Wilson and George C. Marshall!
We are now reviewing the 400+ years of history we’ve discussed over the past 9 months. I am both amazed and thrilled how much we remember. I am very proud of how my students are making connections between life in 1607 and 2011. I can’t tell you how many “ah ha” moments we’ve had these past couple of weeks! It is exciting to hear students say things like “Arthur Ashe, Jr. was a risk-taker! He played a game that most American-African men didn’t play back in his day AND he won Wimbledon!”

The mile run was SO MUCH FUN! We wore our cool GeomeTEE shirts and did our best to make Presidential.

Here we are getting ready to run our 5,283 feet!
